Struggling with the idea of drinking calories this Christmas?

For many people healing their relationship with food...
alcohol = wasted calories
…and that belief can feel disheartening during the festive season.
But Christmas fun isn’t about what’s in your glass, but about freedom, connection, and memories.
You deserve those things,
with or without alcohol.
If the fear is:
“If I drink, I’ll have to eat less”
or
“It’s wasted calories”
...remember: restriction often creates the very anxiety we’re trying to avoid.
What if drinking weren’t a
rule-based decision, but an intuitive one?
Do I want this drink?
Will it add to my experience?
Does it feel good for me today?
These questions put you back
in the driving seat.
It’s okay to join in.
It’s okay to skip it.
It’s okay to have one, or two, or none.
There is no moral scorecard at Christmas.
If you want to enjoy a festive cocktail, a mulled wine, or a fizz with the girls, you’re not
ruining progress.
You’re allowing yourself to be human, connected, and present.
Try this if alcohol feels scary:
Alternate drinks with water (not as punishment but for comfort).
Eat beforehand so your body feels supported.
Choose drinks you genuinely enjoy, not the lowest-calorie ones.
Give yourself permission to change your mind.
Your body knows how to handle both food and drink.
Your worth isn’t determined by calories consumed,
especially not at Christmas.
