BMI is BS!

The BMI was a mathematical formula created by an astronomer over 200 years ago.
It was originally tested on 7,500 white European men to identify characteristics of a ‘normal man’
It was never meant for individual clinical use.
BMI has some crucial flaws...
For example, it does not measure overall fat, muscle mass, bone density, gender, race, genetics, or many other factors.
Therefore, according to the BMI chart, you could be ‘overweight’ but actually be healthy, or you could be ‘healthy’ and be unhealthy.
Your weight does not dictate your health.
In the first photo, I was 2 years into my Orthorexia, and I had irregular periods and dangerously low blood pressure.
Twice, I went to the doctors about this, and all they did was pregnancy tests and told me to try to reduce my stress levels.
I voluntarily went to the doctors because I genuinely didn’t know there was anything wrong with my health. I thought I was the definition of health.
My GP also told me that my slow heart rate, poor circulation, and low blood pressure were because I was an ‘athlete’ (I was a full-time dancer).
Because my GP didn’t address my eating habits, I lived in the grips of Orthorexia for another 5 years.
In the second photo, I’m eating all of my fear foods, I fuel my body to support my exercise, I have a regular cycle, and my blood pressure is stable (I still naturally have a slow heart rate).
According to the BMI scale, I am healthy when I’m ill and unhealthy when I’m well… this is why eating disorders shouldn’t be based on BMI, but rather how food and body image worries affect your mind and bodily functions.
If you suspect an issue within yourself or a loved one, follow your intuition and push to be assessed.
