The dangerous skinny trend we just can't escape, and with GLP-s now being financially incentivised in GP practices, it's about to get a whole lot worse...

I’ve tried resisting talking about the extreme trend of thinness that’s upon us, because body autonomy is still valid, however…

We need to talk about what’s being glamorised right now.

What we’re seeing on red carpets isn’t simply naturally slim figures; it’s a level of thinness that often comes at a cost.

Sunken cheeks, visible bones, arms that look almost fragile... We’ve been here before. The Heroin Chic era taught us how dangerous it is to idolise undernourishment, and yet here it is again, just repackaged.

What you don’t see behind that look:

• Food obsession that never switches off

• Anxiety around eating

• Rigid exercise routines

• Social withdrawal

• Hormonal disruption

• Gut issues & chronic bloating

• Brain fog & low mood

With the rise of GLP-1 weight loss drugs in people who medically don’t need them...

Let’s be clear: These medications were designed for specific health conditions, not to chase an aesthetic ideal. That’s a dangerous game.

When thinness is rewarded socially, financially, and professionally, of course, people will do whatever it takes to achieve it.

This is when it becomes systemic.

But you can believe in body autonomy AND question a culture that profits from shrinking women.

Both can exist.

It’s not just celebrities this affects.

It trickles down into changing rooms, into mirror thoughts, into playgrounds and into “I’ll just eat less/run further today.”

If your body always feels like a project, know that you are not the problem. Diet culture will continue to move the goalposts to profit from your insecurities.
